Germany is a country with a long history of depicting attractive ladies on their banknotes, even in recent times before the advent of the Euro currency in 2002. This note was first issued in 1991, but was updated in 1996 and saw circulation through to the introduction of the Euro. The vignette is of Clara Schumann, a 19th century composer.
