Ladies On Notes From An Indian Ocean Paradise500 Francs 1976
The Comoros Islands are located off the East African Coast in the Indian Ocean. They became independent of France in 1976 and have since issued dramatically colourful currency, often with feminine vignettes, and designs that are popular with collectors. This 500 Francs note's design dates to 1976 but has had some updates since then. Notice on the front of the note, the two ladies in what must be one of the more unusual burqah style attires I have ever seen. 1000 Francs 1976
Obviously the Comoros Islands are very tropical and blessed with favourable weather, a point well noted on these banknotes. Notice the ladies very colourful attire on the reverse of the note. 2500 Francs 1976
This note with a young Comorean lady is a likely candidate for a very well designed, and emblematic note. Notice the sea turtle on the reverse. |
